Antoni Sulek (1951-1988)

Self Portrait

Home

Welcome to the Sulek Art web-site.  This site is dedicated to the life and work of Antoni Sulek who lived and worked from a studio in his parents house in Morpeth for the majority of his life.   Antos (as he was  known to his family and close friends) was born in 1951 and died in January 1988, a month before his 37th birthday.

During the artist’s short life he painted hundreds of amazing works of art, using whatever medium was available to him.  Like so many artists who are now household names Antoni painted with a passion and did not profit from his work financially.  In his own words he said  “Art is a duty to me: I create mirrors for people to see their souls”.  He was not interested in commercial gain.

His paintings are an expression of his life, his emotions, his culture and his past but also of the dark side of humanity and suffering.  Again in common with the best artists, Antoni Sulek’s work was not given the true recognition it deserved in his lifetime

Antoni Sulek - the biography

A number of people in the past have tried and failed to understand the artist and to document his complex life.  The creators of this web-site, Ingrid and Jon Taylor, are writing Antoni’s life story and will produce a complete catalogue of his work.

The purpose of this web-site is to celebrate the fact that Antoni Sulek is an extremely exceptional artist and to share aspects of his life and work with those of you who are already keen collectors and, hopefully, to introduce others, world wide, to his talent.

It will also enable those of you who have information about the artist to contact us and assist us in our research.  We hope you will enjoy visiting this site.
